Quartet Club of Cambridge
Quartet Club was founded in January 1999 by the string teacher and professional viola player Penny Veryard, whose career has spanned working with The London Mozart Players and the UK’s leading period instrument groups. She continues to perform, tour and record, these days chiefly with The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Quartet Club was created to give young people and adults the experience of playing string quartets and to receive coaching to develop their playing and musicianship. An important part of the ethos of Quartet Club is to encourage the skills of listening to what each other is doing and to work as a team, skills that are vital in chamber music but which also have a wider application. Over the years, many young Cambridge string players have been part of Quartet Club and several of their quartets have performed at public and private events.
Quartet Club meets on Saturday mornings, and for many years its home has been the music department at Chesterton Community College, whilst end of term concerts are held in various venues.
