The National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain’s auditions for 2015 are now open!

We have begun our search for children aged 7–13 to join the NCO in 2015. The NCO is Great Britain’s premier symphony orchestra for children and we are looking for the very best young musical talent the UK has to offer, to audition this September or October for a place in one of our six age-banded orchestras. We give young instrumentalists access to a wealth of musical opportunities and experiences at a national level that will excite, embolden and enthuse their music making.

The NCO offers promising young musicians an inspirational experience, providing participants with a platform to perform in ensembles that challenge and encourage their musicianship, alongside like-minded players. Our members attend residential courses at which they receive expert mentoring and tuition, with an emphasis on supporting the development of musically talented children. All of our tutors are professional musicians and are drawn from major national orchestras, conservatoires and specialist music schools. Each intensive course culminates in a performance, with the older orchestras playing at major concert venues, such as the Royal Festival Hall London, Colston Hall Bristol and Leeds Town Hall.

We strongly believe children should have the opportunity to participate in the NCO based on their musical merit not on their ability to pay. To ensure the NCO is affordable to all we offer full bursaries to those in need so we can recruit the best young players from around the nation, whatever their circumstances. Full details of the bursary scheme can be found here.

I am so grateful to have been given a bursary, which has enabled me to have one of the best years of my life! I have been taught by inspirational tutors who have taken my orchestral playing and self-discipline to a new level, performed in incredible venues, had the joy and honour of playing with talented young musicians and made some amazing friends.” NCO bursary recipient
